...but it was long before you were born that the angels had a good talk about this. They all got close and whispered about it, but there wasn't much to decide - there already two souls somewhere who were made to go together like a dream come true. Many times they had been in the world together, maybe missing each other, maybe meeting but not touching, maybe...who knows what?
Some of them found each other. Perhaps some of those ones are still wondering where their perfect other half is...even though it is right next to them now. And others are wishing that they would meet someone...but wondering why they never do.

If you find love then love will be able to find you.

Secrets of Piano Playing

Yesterday's fruit quiz was fruitful for many, I hope. Congratulations to R. Beaudoin, Joseph E. and Grace W. Valentine Professor of Music at Amherst College, Massachusets, who scored several points.

Today I wrote a guide called "Secrets of Piano Playing" which I have added to the site. The idea is that although I do not consider I know or understand a lot about anything, I felt I had spent so much effort on studying the piano over the last five years that I had discovered a few things. They were mostly things people knew once, before me, but it took me five years to find them all and I wanted to save you some time. Once upon a time I wanted to save up all my best ideas for some future imaginary publication, but now I think it's more important to tell them to you now. Because I want us all to work together and co-operate. I am trying to myself.

For some reason, all I can offer today is this fruit quiz. I scored 6 out of 9. See how you measure up to the mightiness of my fruit knowledge.

I could go on about fruit for a bit now, but there is still practising to be done!

Visit

I'm off to Kraków in Poland next week for a competition. There are plenty of other entrants from lots of countries. I will be playing Xenakis and Szymanowski, with a piece by Finnissy in reserve.

I thought it was a bit mad to enter another competition, having already won one, but I am going because I like Poland so much, and I will be happy to play Szymanowski in his own country and in the country of so many of my heroes of the piano. All of you, I am doing this for you! And with you, I hope.

It would be better marketing policy to keep quiet about this until we find out the result...no disappointments there, you see. But this is a truthful weblog written by a truthful person and you will only get the truth here. The truth is, I am going to try to do my best. If I can be me better than ever before, I will have succeeded. If I can convey some authentic Szymanowski feeling to a Polish audience then I will have succeeded.

So now you know my targets. I suppose you should check back here to find out if I hit them!

Full life

The internet...is not life. Though it is part of it.

If there is something on this website that helps you, then I am glad. That is the idea of it.

But if no-one ever read it because they were outside, away from their computers, living life and achieving things, then I would be happy.

Until that is fully possible I will keep writing notes to you here. But, for now, it is a lovely day and I am going outside! Goodbye!
