Improvisation

Did you know that George Gershwin was Leopold Godowsky's brother-in-law?

Did you know that Fats Waller had lessons with Godowsky?

Did you know that Godowsky and Rachmaninov and everyone used to go to hear Art Tatum play?

You do now!

I, too, am a pianist; adore both Gershwin's and Rachmaninoff's music. They knew each other, you know: Rach- was present at the premiere of Rhapsody in Blue, and I've read that they were present at many society parties in NYC. Imagine them improvising each other's music! Rach- playing The Man I Love and Someone To Watch Over Me; Gershwin playing the C# minor prelude! Just being present at such an evening would be a memory of a lifetime. I knew that George's sister, Franny was Godowsky's wife, but didn't know about Fats Waller or Art Tatum, but it's no surprise: good people find each other in the world.

That's exactly right that good people find each other in the world.

And now we have found you!

What you say is very very interesting. We can only imagine what it must have been like!

Do let us know if you have any more discoveries~~Philip
